Stereo photography is a technique both antique and modern. The principles of stereo vision were discovered before photography, and the earliest daguerreotypists experimented with stereo imagery. Modern practitioners of the craft work with sophisticated digital cameras but have a rich history to explore for inspiration. We invite you to discover this astonishing medium and witness its creative applications.

Our exhibition of stereo photography is projected on a screen (3-D glasses are provided) and is presented with commentary and critiques from Golden Gate Stereoscopic Society president and internationally recognized stereographer Mat Bergman. Featured stereographers in attendance will share their philosophy and answer questions. Curious about how stereo photos are made? We’ll demonstrate cameras and methods to make, view, and share your own stereo photographs.

The Golden Gate Stereoscopic Society is the San Francisco / Bay Area’s club for stereo photography enthusiasts. Founded as the Miniature Camera Club in 1934 and later known as the Oakland Camera Club, the GGSS endures today as an association of dedicated stereo photographers. We meet twice monthly on Zoom and encourage you to visit (see our web site for meeting and event schedules). Our mission is to encourage and promote the art of stereo photography through the support of our community and outreach to the public. The Golden Gate Stereoscopic Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
